Rippon tops South nominees

Newport Harbor High senior tailback Ryan Rippon, the Newport-Mesa Player of the Year after leading the Sailors to the CIF Southern Section Division VI championship last fall, tops a list of locals nominated to represent the South in the Orange County All-Star Football Game, scheduled July 14 at Orange Coast College.

Corona del Mar senior linebacker Shawn Mohler, the Newport-Mesa Defensive Player of the Year, is also nominated for the 36-player roster that will face the top seniors from the North.

Laguna Hills High’s Bruce Ingalls will coach the South, for which the roster will be announced April 24.

Costa Mesa: Juan Diaz, Robert De La Cruz, Ivan Ruiz, Tony Krikorian and Raschaad Soomalelogi.

Estancia: Ryan Watson, Ezequiel Villalvazo, Walter Echanique and Clayton Mills.

Newport Harbor: Charles Schultz, Billy Munce, Tom Jackson, Fernando Lara, Delano McKenzie, James Coder and David Rosales.
