PHOTO OF THE WEEK ‘Wishes really do come true’

Sometimes getting a good photograph takes time, preparation and a little luck. Whenever there is a rainy day in the Newport-Mesa area, the Pilot almost always has a story about the weather.

Last year during our wet winter, I found a position at Fashion Island near the water fountain. I thought it would make a graphically interesting photograph.

During several rain storms last year and this year, I waited patiently at the same location hoping I would find the right moment to take a great shot.

Tired of waiting, and looking for some divine intervention during Tuesday’s storm, I decided to make a wish and throw a coin into the fountain. As if on cue, right after the coin hit the water, a grandmother and her grandson entered the frame, and I took this photograph.
