Lions out in OT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ? Overtime performances helped catapult Vanguard University’s men’s basketball team to the NAIA Division I Championship. Wednesday, overtime meant the Lions’ season was over.
Vanguard came up short in the extra period and lost to Georgetown College (Ky.), 83-80, in the opening round of the tournament at Municipal Auditorium.
In a tight game with 13 ties and 17 lead changes, the Lions (20-13) led by three points with 1:34 remaining in regulation. Georgetown’s Mark Surgalski hit a jumper and Robert Cox made a free throw with 11 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
The Lions led early in overtime, 76-74, but Surgalski’s three-point play with 48 seconds left gave the Tigers the lead for good, 79-77.
Kevin Dalafu missed a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer.
Levi Seekins scored 18 points for the Lions, and Johnson had 17 points and 15 rebounds.
