Marina grads injured in fight

Saturday incident at Fairview Park leaves 19-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.Two Marina High School graduates were injured in a fight that broke out in Costa Mesa’s Fairview Park late Saturday, police said.

When police arrived at 10:41 p.m., teenagers and adults were seen leaving the area of Fairview Park near Waldorf School in the 2300 block of Canyon Drive. Many of the teenagers were reportedly students at Edison and Marina high schools in Huntington Beach, police said.

Two injured men were found at the scene. One had multiple stab wounds and another suffered a cut on his head, police said.

John McCarty, 19, of Westminster, was stabbed several times and transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Huntington Beach resident David Grantham, 19, was transported to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach for a cut on his head, police said.

Both of the victim’s are graduates of Marina High; neither received life-threatening injuries.

Police do not believe the fight was gang-related. The suspects who injured the teenagers have not been located by police. Anyone with information about the identity of those involved should contact the Costa Mesa police, (714) 754-5206.
