Austin Flood, Gustavo Segura, Blake Folkins, Austin Burke and Yuri Silva powered the defense, and goalkeeper Chris Martinez recorded three shutouts.

Garasto was named tournament MVP.

The team is coached by Bobby Bruch and assistant coaches Ron Varing, Ramon Martinez and Bart Mooney.

“It was a fantastic team effort to win their fifth tournament championship this season,†Bruch said. “The boys showed great heart and desire, especially in the final, maintaining their focus after playing two tough matches earlier in the day.â€

South Coast International improved its season record to 46-3-3.

In youth lacrosse:

The Huntington Beach seventh- and eighth-grade boys overcame a thin lineup to defeat Hewes, 7-4.

Huntington was without the services of three players for the match.

A balanced offensive attack saw four Huntington players score. Max Devries and Brandon Cooley continued their scoring streak with two goals each, Michael Mendell also scored twice, and Ian Reilly had one goal.

Both Mendell and Reilly scored their first goals of the season.

The passing of midfielders Pat Lyons, Cole Whitaker and Wes Theobald and attackers Jonathon Lue and Matt Schwab set up the scoring opportunities.

Hard checks by defensemen Andy Nemes, Austin Gomez and Zach Gillespie kept the Hewes offense off balance. Brian Shuck, who normally plays defenseman, filled in at goal for injured starting goalie Kevin Shepley and recorded 17 saves.

The win improved Huntington’s record to 2-2.

In previous action, Huntington defeated Irvine, 3--0.

The team, in its first year of competition, has upcoming matches against Seal Beach and Newport Beach.
