Edison soccer keeps pace

The Edison High boys’ soccer team continued its quest for the 2006 Sunset League title by defeating visiting Esperanza, 3-2.

Junior defender Brian Adsit, junior midfielder Mike Minor and senior forward Jimmy Walker scored goals, and Dane Kaylor had three saves.

Huntington fought visiting Los Alamitos to a 2-2 tie. Junior forward Kyle McAthy scored both goals for the Oilers, and goalie Carlos Hernandez helped preserve the tie with eight saves.

Marina also was victorious as the Vikings won at Fountain Valley, 3-2. Senior forwards Juan Meza scored two and Jonathan Finley one for the Vikings.

In girls’ soccer:

Marina was a 2-1 winner over visiting Fountain Valley. Sara Foley and Mariah O’Campo both scored, and Alex Panek had nine saves for the Vikings.

Two other local teams, Edison and Huntington, were shut out, the Chargers, 2-0, by host Esperanza and the Oilers, 4-0, by host Los Alamitos.

The Golden West League match between Ocean View and Saddleback ended in a 1-1 tie. Colleen Kustura scored for the Seahawks, and Vanessa Alvarado had six saves.

In wrestling:

Edison defeated Huntington, 49-27. Continuing undefeated in Sunset League competition for the Chargers are Ceaser Renteria (112 pounds), Garrett Drucker (130), Nick Abraham (140), Brian Visnoski (171), Jake Pinkham (189) and Romney Fuga (275).

The Sunset League finals are Saturday at Esperanza.
