Tars upset top-ranked team

ALISO VIEJO -- Lindly Wren scored the winning goal in the 52nd minute as Newport Harbor High upset defeating Aliso Niguel, 2-1, in a Sea View League girls’ soccer game Tuesday.

Aliso Niguel (19-2-3, 6-1-1 in league) is ranked No. 1 in CIF Southern Section Division I.

Emily Ohlhaver had the first goal for Newport Harbor (7-12-2, 3-4-1). Goalkeeper Mary Giberson had 12 saves to preserve the lead.

“We beat [Corona del Mar] in the Battle of the Bay, but this is definitely up there,� Newport Harbor Coach Phil D’Agostino said. “CdM is for pride, but this is for positioning. It was a nice win for us.�
