Pirates top Solano

college roundup for monWALNUT -- The Orange Coast College women’s basketball team defeated Solano, 63-58, in the consolation final of the Mount SAC tournament on Sunday.

Sophomore forward Jillian Ricks, a transfer from Weber State, scored a team-high 17 points and was named to the all-tournament team, as the Pirates improved to 3-1.

Freshman point guard Laurie Denning scored 16 points and sophomore point guard Teeya Fernandez chipped in nine points. OCC plays host to El Camino at 7 p.m. Friday.

SANTA BARBARA -- The Anteaters fell to the Gauchos Saturday in Big West Conference play.

UCI (11-6-3, 7-2-1 in the Big West) finished third in the conference with 22 points while Cal State Northridge captured the title with 25 points.

The Anteaters recorded the second-highest number of overall wins under Coach George Kuntz.
