City Council meeting preview

The following items are on the council’s agenda:

STUDY SESSIONS

It’s kind of a slow week at the City Council, but three study session items before the meeting might prove interesting to those who follow City Hall.

The most interesting item appears to be the “Cost Recovery Study Findings.” The city hired a consultant to determine the city’s true cost of providing services -- the first step in an attempt to raise fees.

The city will also look at how its investments are performing in the marketplace and consider developing a five-year plan for its water utilities.

WHAT TO EXPECT

While the council won’t be able to vote formally on the fees it administers, the discussion could provide insight into which city services are likely to become more expensive in the near future.

Developers, construction contractors and anyone thinking of remodeling their homes might want to attend the meeting to get an idea of what the permitting cost might be in the future.

TRAFFIC WORK

The city will look at a few traffic-related items.

The City Council will be asked to approve the purchase of some property at the corner of Delaware Street and Garfield Avenue. The property belongs to Esther Contreras and will be sold for $735,000 -- likely for a street-widening project. The city will ask for a $600,000 reimbursement for the project from the Orange County Transportation Authority.

The council is considering several school route safety projects near Marine View and Mesa View middle schools and requesting some reimbursements from the transportation authority for work at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Adams Avenue.

WHAT TO EXPECT

All the above items are on the consent agenda and are expected to pass.
