Sailors without top talent

newport mt sac standaloneBlue and Rakestraw do not compete at Mt. SAC.Competing without their top runners, both the boys’ and girls’ Newport Harbor High cross country teams lost a little bit of steam at the Mount SAC Invitational Saturday in Walnut.

The Sailor girls, running without junior Whitney Blue, who had a prior commitment, finished fifth in their Division II race (out of three total girls’ Division II races). The boys, without senior Kenny Rakestraw, finished 16th in their Division II race.

Rakestraw was in the hospital Friday and part of Saturday with what was thought to be appendicitis, coach Nowell Kay said.

The girls were paced by Lauren Maddox, Taylor Bryson, Melissa Mead, Erica Pearson and Sophia Ditty, while the boys were led by Mike Puncel, Wesley Urtusuastegui, Francisco Avonce, Sean Anderson and Chris Lewis.
