Opal ring is stolen from jewelry shop
A man and a woman distracted a jewelry store clerk and allegedly
stole a $1,200 ring Sunday afternoon, police said.
They came into David’s Creative Jewelers in the 300 block of North
Coast Highway, and the man asked to see a 14-karat opal ring, said
Sgt. Darin Lenyi.
While the man inspected the ring, the woman walked up to a jewelry
case at the opposite end of the store and asked to see some jewelry,
Lenyi said.
The man allegedly left the store with the ring while the clerk was
busy showing another piece of jewelry to the woman, Lenyi said.
The woman then left, and the clerk realized the ring was missing
several minutes later, Lenyi said.
The man and woman drove off in a sedan, Lenyi said.
Drug sting results in robbery arrest of two
Laguna Beach Police, assisted by Huntington Beach Police, arrested
two men for robbing a police informant during a supposed drug deal
Oct. 6, police said.
An informant working with undercover Laguna Beach detectives
negotiated a deal to buy methamphetamines at a location in Huntington
Beach, said Sgt. Darin Lenyi.
The confidential informant met with suspects in Huntington Beach,
and instead of exchanging the money for drugs, the two men stole
$3,600 from the informant, Lenyi said.
“When the informant flashed the money, they reached out of the car
and grabbed it and then drove off,” Lenyi said.
Mark Fast, 25, of Westminster, and Seth Knitter, 23, of Garden
Grove, were stopped by police and arrested on suspicion of robbery,
Lenyi said. They did not have any drugs in the vehicle, Lenyi said.
Sewage spill shuts down Aliso Beach
Orange County Environmental Health has closed 600 feet of
coastline at Aliso Beach due to a sewage spill, officials said
Wednesday. The 1,350-gallon spill reported Monday resulted from a
root blockage in Laguna Hills, said Monica Mazur, spokeswoman for the
Orange County Health Department. The beach in that area will remain
closed until water samples test clean, Mazur said.
