KEANE
Keane’s severely broken leg made him easy to catch. But his
veterinary medical rescue caught us at a time when we’ve been forced
to halt medical rescues due to a serious drop in donations.
Lucky for the 7-week-old tabby kitten, Keane’s foster momma Lee
Turner produced her credit card to cover the $800 surgery, which we
hope to repay. His leg required pins to restructure the bone. The
pins will be removed in a month.
Most animal-loving people are not aware that the appropriate
adoption age is 8 to 9 weeks for kittens of average-sized litters,
and 11 weeks for kittens from litters of six or more. Sadly, puppies
and kittens under the weight and age limits may be swiftly euthanized
at municipal shelters. Our rescue calls indicate that kittens that
are given away free often run away when they are 5 months old to find
a mate, and will most likely have kittens in someone’s yard.
