Sage seeks third straight

The Sage Hill School football program has a chance to make school
history when it travels to Midway Baptist Friday afternoon.
The Lightning (2-0) have never opened their season with three
straight wins in their young history. But, if the first two games are
any indicator, lightning could very well strike three straight times
this year.
“Basically, they’re not a real big team, Midway,” Sage Coach Tom
Monarch said. “I think we’ll be able to dominate both lines
(offensive and defensive).”
Sage dispatched its first two opponents this season with relative
ease, defeating Fairmont Prep, 41-8, and Saddleback Valley Christian,
32-19, led by the double-edged rushing attack of senior tailback Keya
Manshadi and junior fullback Don Ayres, dubbed “Thunder and
Lightning.”
Manshadi is coming off a 204-yard, one-touchdown performance
against SVC, while Ayres pounded for 105 yards and two touchdowns
against the Warriors.
The game plan heading to Midway -- in San Diego County -- will be
just about the same, Monarch said.
“Offensively we’d like to expand on our outside run,” he said.
“They might put more guys in the box, so we might run some option
plays. We can get [sophomore quarterback Jamie McGee] to run a little
more and give Keya and Don a break.”
Midway Baptist (1-1) is coming off a 26-6 loss to JSerra, which
allowed no offensive touchdowns against the Patriots: Midway scored
its six points on a 32-yard punt return.
In its first game of the season, Midway defeated Tri-City
Christian of Vista, 16-14, as Sunti Campbell rushed for 140 yards and
two touchdowns.
But the Lightning, who have posted a combined 579 yards rushing
and seven TDs in their two games, should have the line of scrimmage
contained, Monarch said.
Kickoff is at 4 p.m.
