Mayor honors businessman

Newport Beach Mayor John Heffernan announced Wednesday that the city

has proclaimed Aug. 10, 2005, William D. Lusk Day, in honor of one of

the city’s most influential businessmen.

Heffernan made the proclamation at a reception for local

homebuilders at the Balboa Bay Club.

Lusk, a Newport Beach resident for 40 years, has served as

president of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, skipper of the

Commodores Club and director of Hoag Hospital’s 552 Club.

His family business, the Lusk Co., has built more than 3,500 homes

in Orange County.

Lusk also co-founded the Lusk Center for Real Estate Development
