Jacob Knapp’s win in the boys 11- and under-division of the Costa
Mesa junior golf championships Tuesday shouldn’t have come as
unexpected.
Knapp, a Costa Mesa resident, has been playing well of late,
winning three tournaments in the past three weeks. He shot a 65 for
18 holes at David L. Baker Memorial Golf Course in Fountain Valley
while carding a 1-over-par round at El Prado Golf Course in Chino.
Knapp shot a 2-over 37 for nine holes to win Costa Mesa Golf &
Country Club’s Mesa Linda course Tuesday.
Taylor Keddington of Newport Beach shot 80 competing in the boys
14-15 division at Costa Mesa.

Santa Ana Country Club held its USC versus “the world,” tournament
Friday.
Many Santa Ana members have USC ties, including Dick Hoagland, who
spearheaded the inaugural event, which included performances by the
USC marching band and song leaders.
Former USC and NFL quarterback Paul McDonald, father of former
Newport Harbor High quarterback Michael McDonald, and Director of
Golf Mike Reehl emceed the event.
The golf tournament featured 20 two-man teams from both sides
competing in match play.
Each hole was worth a point and the winning team at the end of 18
holes received an extra four points.
If both teams tied a hole, they each received a half point.
Final score: USC 227 1/2 , “the world” 212 1/2 .
