Newport has several firsts

Several Newport Beach junior lifeguard members had strong showings in
the 2005 Junior Lifeguard competitions in Long Beach Friday.
Mckenna Cottam finished first in the run-swim-run in the AA
division for 15- and 16-year olds.
Garret Glore and Jordan McClaren were first in the rescue relay
for the B division (12- and 13-year olds). Glore also took first in
the distance swim.
Allie McCormick was first in the run-swim-run in the C division
(9-, 10- and 11-year olds). John Swigart, A.J. Santa Maria, Hailey
Senske, Natalie Barbaresi, Josh Giger and Riley Robinson combined to
finish first in the run relay in the C division.
Alex Swigart took second place in beach flags in the B division,
while Senske was second in the distance run in the C division.
Also taking second place in the C division were Jake Wyatt,
Delaney Pouch, Maddy McClaren, Preston Lee, Charlie Horwarth and
Trent Hayes in the swim relay. Horwarth also came in second in the
distance paddle and teamed with McCormick for second in the rescue
relay.
Reily O’Brien was third in the distance run in the AA division.
The competitions were comprised of 28 lifeguard agencies in
California.
Approximately 60 Newport Beach junior lifeguards -- several will
go to a national event -- participated against 2,500 other
competitors.
