Borchard ignites CdM

The Corona del Mar 13-year old Pony All-Star team defeated La Mirada,

13-5, on Sunday in the first round of the West zone-South division

All-Star tournament in Fullerton.

Michael Borchard allowed one earned run in six innings on the

mound and helped his own cause by belting two triples and a single at

the plate.

Matt Ruiz was 3 for 3 with a walk and John Christian registered a

triple and single for CdM. The team will play East Hills of Anaheim

at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Amerige Park in Fullerton.

Newport Beach American

Little League

9- and 10-year-old All-Stars

The Newport Beach American Little League 9- and 10-year-old

All-Star team advanced to the semifinals of the second-chance bracket

of the District 55 tournament with wins over Newport Beach National

and Aliso Viejo July 2 and 3, respectively, at La Paz Park. Newport

National is eliminated while the Americans faced Laguna Beach on

Tuesday night.

Costa Mesa American

Little League 9-10 All-Stars

Costa Mesa American Little League 9-10 All-Stars lost to Seaview

Little League, 5-4, June 29 at Huntington Valley Little League in

District 62 tournament.

Jeremy Peak lead off the game with a single and two batters later

Erik Kjos knocked in two runs. A pair of wild pitches latter gave

Costa Mesa a 3- 0 lead at the end of one inning.

Adam Bernacchi hit a two-out single in the fifth for Costa Mesa

that scored Adam Bernacchi to tie the score, 4-4.

Peak struck out six with one walk while allowing one earned run

through five innings. He was also had a pair of singles in three

at-bats. Bernacchi was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Matt LaValley was 1

for 1 with a double, two walks and a run scored.
