Allyson Harris helped propel the Costa Mesa High girls water polo
team into the CIF Southern Section Division VI quarterfinals and the
girls swim team to league runner-up standings.
Harris has been named the Mustangs’ female Athlete of the Year.
As one of the top defenders on the water polo team, Harris’
responsibilities were more on stopping the other team from scoring,
but she ended up with the fourth most goals scored on the team behind
Sarah Bowman, Christine Twohig and Annie Le.
Harris was third-team All-CIF Division VI as the Mustangs held
nine opponents to two or fewer goals.
As a distance swimmer, Harris was second in league in the 500-yard
freestyle (5:46.61). She was 24th in the 500 free (5:49.49) at the
Division III preliminaries at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach. She was
the anchor leg in the 200 medley relay, which finished in 2:05.14,
and swam the leadoff leg of the 400 free relay, which finished in
4:03.49. Both relay teams ended in 21st place.
