‘Squanderlust:’ Urge to waste money

I am once again asking myself who the Huntington Beach City Council
represents.
I read today the police response-time record in our city is among
the worst in the county (“Blue line a bit too thin,” June 9). Sewer
rates will increase by more than 30% and you are sending money to
people for damage caused by potholes. While Rome burns, you deal with
nonissues such as banning dogs in parks (the police department has
lots of free time to enforce that ban) and other critical issues such
as regulating RV parking.
Thanks to you, the artificial demand created by the new RV law has
resulted in the price of my trailer storage increasing from $119 to
$149 each month. That’s a whopping 25% cost increase in one month.
This increase was imposed as a “market adjustment” by Seacliff
Storage in Huntington Beach immediately after your new law went into
effect in April. Since I got my storage space in 2004, the price has
jumped more than 67% from my initial cost of $89 per month.
You guys are doing a great job... keep it up and I’ll have to move
into my motor home. At least I won’t have to pay property taxes for
you to squander.
