Free art Fridays for residents

“T.G.I.F.” will have a new meaning for Laguna Beach residents. This

summer, Sawdust Art Festival will offer free admission on the first

Friday of the month -- July 1, August 5 and September 2 -- to

residents. Said Marsh Scott, president of the Sawdust’s board of

directors, “More cars and people coming to town provide some

challenges to the community.”

The first Friday, July 1, is also opening day of the 39th annual

Sawdust Art Festival, when the sawdust is fresh and the fine art and

crafts made by 200 Laguna Beach artists makes its summer debut. There

will be 30 new exhibitors at the show, which is themed “Sun, Surf and

Sawdust” this year. In keeping with the theme, 36 Sawdust Art

Festival artists turned skimboards into works of art, which will be

displayed in their respective booths on opening day through August 4.

The boards were donated by Victoria Skimboards of Laguna Beach and

will be auctioned to the public on August 5, the second of the First

Fridays Free promo, to raise funds for Orange County charities.

The 2005 Sawdust Art Festival runs July 1 -- Sept. 4 and is open

from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except July 4, when closing time is

6 p.m. One-day adult admission, which includes all entertainment,

demonstrations and workshops, is $7; seniors 65 and older, $5.50;

children 6-12, $2 and children five and younger are admitted for

free.

A summer season pass allowing unlimited entries is $16, while an

annual pass, allowing unlimited entries to both the summer and Winter

Fantasy shows is $20. For additional information, call (949) 494-3030

or visit www.SawdustArtFestival.org.

The Sawdust Art Festival facility is at 935 Laguna Canyon Road.
