Veterans and spouses eligible for paid homecare assistance
- Share via
The Veterans Administration offers a pension program that pays for
non-medical homecare services for veterans and/or surviving spouses
who qualify with a medical and financial need. This little-known
program is called the Veterans Salute pension plan which is helping
hundreds of thousands of senior veterans across America access
pension funds to pay for homecare services so they can continue to
live independently at home. It is estimated that more than 25,000
veterans and/or surviving spouses may be qualified for this benefit
within the greater Los Angeles region.
Services include up to 60 hours per month for assistance with:
*--*
Walking & transferring Laundry & housekeeping Driving & shopping
Bathing & grooming Safety supervision Household management
Meal preparation Medication reminders Physical/social
activities
*--*
To qualify, the veteran must have:
1) Served at least 90 days of active duty in the armed forces,
partly during a time of war, with an honorable discharge.
2) A long term medical condition causing a need for the aid and
attendance of another person to effectively perform activities of
daily living.
3) Limited financial resources with which to pay for the services.
The Veterans Salute program and its homecare services are offered
throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties by more than a dozen local
Home Instead Senior Care offices which are part of the world’s
largest network of non-medical homecare services for the elderly.
These offices will also assist veterans and spouses in applying and
gaining approval for this pension benefit to ensure that they receive
the homecare pension they have earned.
