Ducks closing in on title

The Ducks posted two more convincing victories and with each, moved a

step closer to clinching the regular season championship in the city

of Laguna Beach’s Junior Basketball League.

The two wins, which came at the expense of the Spurs and Tarheels,

gave the Ducks a seven-game win streak and allowed them to open up a

two-game lead on the second-place Spurs.

Ducks 61, Spurs 44

Coach Max Jaffe’s Ducks knocked the Spurs of coach Cataldo Alessi

out of a three-way tie for first place with the 17-point victory.

League scoring leader Ryan Lawler scored 28 points, Kyle Jenkins

added 11 and Ryan Dietz and Alec Jaffe each had eight points to lead

the Ducks in scoring.

John Palfreyman finished with 15 points, Jason Colladay scored 12

and Matt Karam had eight more for the Spurs.

Ducks 65, Tarheels 46

Ryan Lawler singed the nets for 42 points on 21 field goals to spark the Ducks.

Alec Jaffe had eight points and Kyle Jenkins scored six for the

Ducks, who opened up a 15-point halftime lead.

Dylan Roley hit a pair of three-pointers en route to a 22-point

game, and Christian Kesler had 11 points to lead coach Spencer

Harrell’s Tarheels.

Kings 72, Hawks 47

Four Kings scoring in double figures as coach Bobby Monroe’s Kings

ran their win streak to four games.

Erich Vickers poured in 22 points, Jack Monroe scored 21, Bryce

Healey scored 15 and Matthew Moisen tacked on 10 more.

The Hawks’ Skylar Perkins earned game-high scoring honors with 24

points, followed by teammate Bret Barrett with eight points.

Kings 67, Spurs 60

With Erich Vickers and Bryce Healey each scoring 19 points and

Jack Monroe right behind with 16 points, the Kings handed the Spurs

their second-straight loss.

Jack Monroe also was in double figures for the Kings with 16

points and Matthew Moisen scored nine.

Jason Colladay scored 21, John Palfreyman scored 18, Casey

Finnerty scored 11 and Andrew Levin scored eight to account for all

but two of the Spurs’ 60 point total.

Tarheels 57, Artists 43

Dylan Roley scored 17 points to lead four Tarheels in double

figures in the win over the Artists of coach Ian Butters.

Mitchell McMullin scored 12 and Troy Donenfeld and Christian

Kesler each had 10 points for the winners.

Lance Knapp scored 17 points and Dylan McDonald 12 for the

Artists, who also were awarded a forfeit win over the Hawks.

Junior League standings: 1. Ducks, 7-1; 2. Spurs, 5-3; 3. Kings,

4-4; 4. Hawks, Tarheels, 3-5; 6. Artists, 2-6.
