GIFT LIMITATION BAN
Councilwoman Debbie Cook is asking the council to further amend
the city’s gift ban ordinance to bring it into full compliance with
state law.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Changing the law will create a single set of standards for city
employees and elected officials. The council will likely pass the
ordinance.
ACCESS GATE
AT CENTRAL PARK
Councilmen Gil Coerper and Dave Sullivan are introducing an
ordinance to temporarily open a 6-foot tall emergency-access gate
between the sports complex and the library.
The fence was ordered by the council in June 2003 as a way to
ensure that users of the Sports Complex would pay a $1 all-day
parking fee and not use the free parking at the nearby library.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A request has been made by Sports Complex concession operator
Sandy Amersfoorth to open the gate on weekends for a trial period of
one month. Amersfoorth believes opening the gate will increase her
volume of business.
It’s hard to predict which way the council will go on this. The
parking revenue is important to the Sports Complex, but the project
will not survive if area vendors cannot make a living. Opening the
gate is also merely an experiment and the gate could be ordered
closed at any time.
PARKING
The council will be asked to shift some parking responsibilities
at some city parks, recreation areas and public parking garages from
the Community Services Department to the Huntington Beach Police
Department.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The item is on the city’s consent agenda and will likely be
approved.
