Laguna Beach Unified School District schools will be out of

session for spring break from Monday through Friday.

Register your kindergartners

Laguna Beach Unified School District will be having kindergarten

registration for children who are 5 years old on or before Dec. 1. To

register, bring your child’s birth certificate, immunization record

and proof of residency within the boundaries of the district.

El Morro Elementary School, 8681 N. Coast Highway, will have

registration from 9 a.m. to noon April 20. For information, call

Teen musical

with a message

The Generation GAP, Gallimaufry Performing Arts’ teen theatre

company, will perform the musical “Weird Romance” at 7:30 p.m. April

22, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 23 at the Festival of Arts

Forum Theatre, 650 Laguna Canyon Road. Tickets are $12 for adults and

$8 for students and seniors.

The Generation GAP is a student-run theater company with a goal to

provide Laguna youth the opportunity to experiment and learn all

aspects of theater, including producing, directing, performing,

fundraising, designing and managing.

This group of teens has been meeting for eight months in

preparation for this production. The process began with discussions

and readings of potential material for production. After deciding on

the show, the teens began negotiations for the rights, prepared a

budget, secured the theater and began fundraising. It was only after

five months of preproduction that rehearsals began.

The show is being directed and choreographed by Ren Lescault,

produced by Jazz Brice and musically directed by the company’s

artistic director, Noah Plomgren. The cast includes Haley Bierbaum,

Jazz Brice, Rachel Busic, Brian Drummy, Annie Freeman, Patrick Kelly,

Adam Kenworthy, Brianna Krantz, Chloe Mansour, Fannie Olhats, Clara

Plomgren, Noah Plomgren, Arianna Ross, Shaina Silverman and Lindsay

Wayne.

Students are ready

for French menus

All students studying French at St. Catherine Catholic School have

developed essential skills to take a trip abroad. Sixth-grade

students have mastered the names for all articles of clothing;

seventh-grade students have compiled photo albums of their family.

Eighth-grade students have created French menus for breakfast, lunch

and dinner. St. Catherine students are all set for visiting, shopping

and dining “On y va a Paris.”

St. Catherine’s is offering a new pre-kindergarten class for the

2005-06 school year. The program will be taught by the school’s

kindergarten teacher, Marie Webb. For information, call

LBUSD offers adult education programs

Laguna Beach Unified School District is offering adult education

programs. “English as a Second Language” meets at 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Monday to Thursdays in room 90, behind the public swimming pool at

Manzanita Street and Park Avenue. The class is free. Participants can

Gifted students get

invited to Princeton

The Summer Institute for the Gifted will be offering a three-week

residential program, July 17 to August 6 at Princeton University for

the summer of 2005 for gifted students in the Laguna Beach area.

The prestigious three-week, co-educational summer programs are

offered to academically talented students in grades four through 11.

The deadline for applications is May 1.

UCI reading program approved by state

UC Irvine Extension’s newly developed Reading Certificate Program

was approved by the State of California’s Commission on Teacher

Credentialing Committee on Accreditation.

Created to address visual language arts and literacy issues, the

program is designed to help credentialed teachers meet local, state

and federal requirements.

The 180-hour Reading Certificate Program will be offered to school

districts on-site, specifically tailored to meet the district’s

needs. It is planned to be launched this summer. For more
