Newport Harbor is runner-up

The Newport Harbor High boys golf team had a pair of strong finishes

in the Estancia tournament Monday at Mesa Verde Country Club.

The Sailors’ top team finished second in the 20-team event, 12

shots off the pace of Brea Olinda.

Harbor’s second foursomewound up eighth (238).

Davis Pemstein, Brandon Sowers, Rhett Palmer and Chris Willard

comprised the A team for Newport Harbor.

The Sailors’ B team consisted of Spencer Quinn, Justin Morehead,

Tony Riva and Paul Neff.

Estancia, struggling in the windy conditions, finished 15th.

The event featured a unique scoring format.

Each school’s four-player team used just two players’ scores for

the first six holes, three players’ scores for the middle six holes

and all four players’ scores for the final six holes.

Due to this format, there were no individual scores recorded and

no medalist awarded.

Par was 211.

Foothill finished third with a score of 231.
