Vanguard’s Faulkner earns national award

Vanguard University senior Lisa Faulkner has been named NAIA
Co-Player of the Year in women’s basketball, marking the first time a
Vanguard player has received the award.
Faulkner, a 5-foot-4 point guard who helped the Lions reach the
quarterfinals of the NAIA tournament, set an NAIA single-season
assist record with 385 and broke an NAIA tournament single-game
assist record with 17 in a first-round win over Edward Waters.
She led the Golden State Athletic Conference and NAIA in assists
during the season, averaging more than 10 per game.
Faulkner, an All-GSAC selection, helped lead the Lions to a third
consecutive conference championship and a 32-4 record, the most
victories in school history.
She scored 10 points, six on two three-pointers, and added 12
assists in the Lions’ 87-72 loss to Union University in the NAIA
quarterfinals in Jackson, Tenn. Faulkner had 12 points and six
assists in a second-round victory.
