Newport wins

The Newport Beach AYSO Region 97 girls under-12 soccer team defeated

North Irvine, 3-0, in a spring soccer game this past weekend.

Beth Barnard scored the first goal for Newport two minutes in,

while Ava Nelson and Lauren D’Ippolito also added goals. Kathryn

Zimmermann, Nicole Baker, Morgan Williams and Chelsea Barth all took

numerous shots on goal, and the defense was led by Kelly Rorden,

Christie Ohlhaver, Briana Truxton, Megan Case and Meghan Nance.

In girls under-11 play:

* Newport Beach 2, South Irvine 0

Emily Mitchell, Monique Conant and Delaney Bell led the Newport

defense while Allison Schelin and Molly Anderson both scored goals to

lead the offense.

In girls under-8 play:

* Shamrocks

Amanda Sheppard, Kate Pipkin and Kiersten Yardley all scored goals

for the Shamrocks, with one assist from Madelynne Lunde. The defense

was anchored by Rachael Whitelegge, Emily Vaughn and goalie Kendra

Hall.

* Purple Fire Girls vs. Blueberries

The Purple Fire Girls were led by Kaitlyn Hebert, who scored four

goals. Solid play from Kate Hefner, Lindzy Konrad, and Gigi Woodall

bolstered Fire Girls’ offense. Michelle Dunchas, Gaby Findlay,Katie

Conway, and Kara Carlson played led the defense.

In girls under-6 play:

* Green Lightning vs. Blue Skittles

Destry Comp, Erika Ellis and Julia Ackerman all scored for the

Green Lightning, while Nichole Sanchez, Lauren Henke, Caroly Wilkes

and Paula Pedrani all contributed solid performances.
