UC Irvine junior point guard Aaron Fitzgerald scored 17 first-half
points to post the lone highlight for the visiting Anteaters, who
dropped a Big West Conference men’s basketball game at Utah State,
87-49, Saturday.
Fitzgerald was held scoreless after intermission as the visitors
managed just 19 second-half points to fall to 13-12, 6-10 in
conference.
Utah State (21-7, 12-5) got 22 points from freshman guard Jaycee
Carroll and 21 from senior forward Spencer Nelson before 10,270.
UCI senior Greg Ethington was the only other Anteater in double
figures with 10 points, as UCI made just 18 of 50 field-goal tries

made just 3 of 17 three-point tries.
UCI can clinch a berth in the conference tournament with a win or
a UC Riverside loss in the final two games.
