Navy places big order with area armor maker
Costa Mesa armor manufacturer Ceradyne, Inc. announced Friday that
the U.S. Navy placed a $2.8-million order for lightweight armor. The
order was the first time the firm was asked to craft armor for a
military vessel.
The armor, according to a release, will be used for Landing Craft
Air Cushion vessels, which the Navy describes as high-speed
amphibious craft used by Marines during beach assaults. The Navy
requested delivery of the armor in late 2005.
