Regarding the never-ending battle over control of Santa Ana Heights,
I believe there can be a compromise. Since Newport Beach has already
annexed half of Santa Ana Heights, and since the Local Agency
Formation Commission has agreed that all of Santa Ana Heights should
remain one undivided community, Newport Beach should continue with
its intent to annex the remaining portion of Santa Ana Heights since
this is the collective will of the people of Santa Ana Heights, the
Santa Ana Heights Project Advisory Committee and the Newport Beach
City Council.
In fact, the entire contiguous area in question (Santa Ana
Heights, the area south of Mesa and the Santa Ana Country Club)
should all be annexed into Newport Beach.
Having less territory to deal with would actually benefit Costa
Mesa. The city would then have more time to deal with the existing
countless unresolved issues choking it.

Regarding the annexation of West Santa Ana Heights to Costa Mesa,
I think it’s the proper thing. There is little to show that East and
West Santa Ana Heights have anything in common, except their names.
It’s a half mile between the residents of East Santa Ana Heights and
West Santa Ana Heights. There is a drainage channel and a golf course
between the two. Mesa Drive and Irvine Drive are the only
connections. Furthermore, it has traditionally been a part of Costa
Mesa. If it still goes to Newport Beach, it can be sure that Santa
Ana Country Club will go to Newport Beach also, which would be right
in the heart of Costa Mesa. It is a question of what is reasonable
and what is fair. The services of Costa Mesa can be provided through
West Santa Ana Heights.

Costa Mesa
Regarding the struggle between Costa Mesa and Newport Beach over
annexation of West Newport Heights, we have gone to many meetings and
expressed feelings as residents that we wanted to be annexed into
Newport Beach, and they have already accepted East Santa Ana Heights
into Newport Beach. They were planning on continuing to keep the east
and west sides of Santa Ana Heights for Newport Beach, but Costa Mesa
had different ideas. They cannot even take care of their own city.
Many things need to be done and never have been.
I wish Costa Mesa would stop being childish and playing tug of war
over West Santa Ana Heights.
