Locals survive tsunami and save others
Two local men not only survived Sunday’s tsunami in Southeast
Asia, they also saved at least a dozen lives. Steve Abrams, 37, of
Costa Mesa, said he and a Newport Beach friend, who declined to be
named, grabbed as many Thai people as they could and put them on top
of cars, above the water line.
Abrams, who’s suffering from exhaustion and minor scrapes, said
Thursday that he and four friends he traveled with are still trying
to catch a flight home.
The tsunami that killed at least 122,000 people in Thailand, Sri
Lanka, Indonesia and India was the result of a 9.0 earthquake that
struck the Indian Ocean.
