Two Newport Beach caregivers honored
Santiago Garcia of SoCal Homecare Inc. and Linda Winkler of
LivHome received Caring Touch honors for their work as caregivers to
Alzheimer’s patients in the Newport Beach community.
The two honorees were recognized for their contributions at the
Friends of Alzheimer’s Caregivers annual education conference in Long
Beach on Dec. 3.
The Caring Touch Awards were established to honor nurse assistants
to patients with Alzheimer’s and other illnesses. Garcia, of Corona,
received one of four top awards and a $1,000 prize.
Winkler, of Anaheim, was among six finalists and received a $200
prize.
Orange County caregivers received eight of the 10 awards.
Scouts collect more food for the hungry
Orange County Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts collected 182,615 pounds
of food to help Second Harvest Food Bank’s efforts to feed the hungry
in Orange County.
The scouts, who have partnered with Second Harvest for the past
three years, gathered 61,839 pounds more than last year during the
weeklong food drive.
About 456,000 county residents are at risk of going hungry each
month, according to Second Harvest Food Bank statistics, and 42% of
those are children.
