Top of the World Elementary School students are thankful for many
things. The TOW Student Council created a tremendous turkey poster to
be displayed in the lunch patio area. Students wrote on paper
feathers to share their sentiments about what they were thankful for
and then glued them onto the turkey. The turkey is now about
five-feet wide with turkey feathers.
Sentiments included the following: “I am thankful for food and
love and joy and family and my catsâ€; “I am thankful for a house and
nice people and our school. Plus pencils and crayonsâ€; “I am thankful
for my familyâ€; and “I am thankful for Thanksgivingâ€.
TOW kicked off its Toys for Tots drive on Nov. 19 with a visit
from members of U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. New, unwrapped toys for
children and teens are being collected in classrooms to help children
in need. Donations are accepted through Dec. 10. In addition, our
fifth-grade students will be presenting their annual Holiday Charity
Boutique. Students make and sell items or provide a service to
boutique visitors. As individual entrepreneurs, the students learn
about marketing strategies, math skills, supply and demand, profit
and loss, customer relations and decision-making. TOW students will
have an opportunity to purchase these items and services for $.25 to
$2. All proceeds will be given to assist local charities.
Finally, the TOW PTA is still taking sponsorship donations for the
upcoming Jog-A-Thon T-shirts. Businesses and individuals will have
their names printed on the Dolphin banner as well as have their names
printed on the back of our T-shirts. Donations will be accepted until
the Jog-A-Thon in March, but if you want your name on the Dolphin
banner, turn in your donation by Wednesday. For information, call
Monica Snyder at (949) 510-0120.
