Surf City couple attacked in their bed
A Huntington Beach couple was assaulted in their home by an
intruder early Tuesday morning.
The couple awakened to find a stranger in their bedroom at about
3:58 a.m. Tuesday in the 6500 block of Corrine Circle.
When the intruder found the couple, Brice and Amy Jones, both 37,
police said he assaulted Brice Jones.
Police said the man then fled the couple’s bedroom and the only
description police have of the suspect is that he was wearing a dark
hooded sweatshirt.
Brice Jones was sent to Huntington Beach Hospital for head trauma
and is in stable condition, police said. According to police, Jones’
wife, Amy, was not injured or hospitalized.
Police get grant to combat DUIs
The Huntington Beach Police Department was awarded a $371,780
grant to fund a program to educate, prevent and enforce driving under
the influence.
The grant will allow officers to contact bars, restaurants and
liquor stores in the city and provide them with responsible alcohol
business practice literature and conduct training on site to remind
them of their legal obligations as alcoholic beverage retailers.
“This is great news,†Police Chief Kenneth Small said. “Our goal
is to educate residents on the hazards of driving while impaired, and
this program goes a long way toward accomplishing that.â€
The funds provide for eight extra officers per week to work in the
field to target those who might drive under the influence of alcohol
or drugs. The police department will also conduct DUI checkpoints and
DUI saturation patrols. The DUI saturation patrol is part of a
strategy to prevent drunk driving and crashes within the city of
Huntington Beach. For more information, call (714) 536-5663.
