Project Cuddle ball coming to Costa Mesa

Project Cuddle, a Costa Mesa nonprofit that aims to rescue babies

from death and abandonment, will host its fourth annual Costume Gala

and Fundraiser Ball at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Wyndham Gardens Hotel

in Costa Mesa.

The charity event will be hosted by Frank Lozano, with celebrity

co-host, Bob Saget. The evening’s honorees will include Sen. Jim

Brulte and actor John Stamos.

Stamos and Brulte, who has been instrumental in legislations such

as the Safe Surrender Law and the Good Samaritan Act, will be

presented with Project Cuddle’s Angel Award at the gala. The evening

will include dinner, cocktails and a silent auction and will be

themed Back to the ‘50s.

Project Cuddle hopes to raise about $75,000 through the event.

Hunger-relief group approaching milestone

Second Harvest Food Bank on Wednesday will celebrate the

collection and distribution of its 200-millionth pound of food.

The 21-year-old organization is Orange County’s largest

hunger-relief organization, and it distributes more than 1 million

pounds of food per month to 400 member charities, including many in

Costa Mesa, that feed people at risk for hunger.

The food bank will hold a cake-cutting ceremony with the charity

that checks out the 200-millionth pound of food, and the Mayor of

Orange and members of the Orange Chamber of Commerce have been

invited.

The celebration will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Second

Harvest Food Bank, 426-A West Almond St., Orange. For information,
