Mr. Dunn,
After attending the dedication to the Orange Coast College soccer
field new synthectic turf and reading about the scramble to get the
new turf ready for the OCC stadium, I thought you might be interested
in a little history of the original stadium and field.
I attended meetings in 1954 with the campus architect, Dr. [Basil]
Peterson, Wendell Pickens and the track coach to debate whether or
not to include a track within the stadium. There was good reasoning
by both sides, however Harry LeBard agreed with me to re-design so
that the track would be on the outside and yet use a separate
bleacher set.
So, as I looked at the striking field photo, I think it was a good
plan. Moreover, it will be a great asset in the future for the
incoming athletes plus all of the area high schools as well as any
and al community stadium uses.
It’s another step into the future by the OCC district board, the
administration and the physical ed department.
Now, if we can get our community and fans to be part of and proud
of our teams, it will be worth enjoyment.
Ray Rosso
P.S. --
It’s still the best designed field for football viewing!

original football coach (1948-55).
