UCI slips past Buffalo

The UC Irvine women’s soccer team defeated the Buffalo Bulls, 2-1, in
overtime at the Arizona invitational Sunday in Tucson.
Sophomore Lauryn Birkinshaw broke the scoreless tie with a goal in
the 73rd minute off an assist by senior Tara Weldon.
After the Bulls tied it moments later to force overtime, UCI
sophomore Britney Webster picked up her second game-winning goal of
the season as she scored just over six minutes into the first
overtime period to give UCI (2-2) the win.
UCI freshman goalkeeper Jackie Vazquez had six saves in her first
career start.
Anteater men blanked
* SOCCER: The UC Irvine men’s soccer lost to visiting Navy, 3-0,
in the Anteaters’ season opener Saturday night as part of the UCI
College Classic.
The Midshipmen (1-0-1) outshot the Anteaters, 7-6, in a scoreless
first half, before McKenzie Plank broke the tie three minutes into
the second half.
