UCI sweeps foes

Kelly Wing paced UC Irvine with 17 kills as the Anteaters’ women’s

volleyball team swept William & Mary, 30-24, 30-22, 30-22, Saturday

in the UCI tournament, then followed with a 30-21, 30-26, 30-15 win

over George Washington.

Sami Cash (15 kills), Trisha White (11) and Amanda Vazquez (10)

also sparked the Anteaters (4-0) in the first match. Wing and Cash

had 12 kills each against George Washington.

Lions victorious in 3

* VOLLEYBALL: Vanguard University won its only match Saturday at

the CUI Crowne Plaza Labor Day Volleyball Festival, defeating Holy

Names, 30-18, 30-25, 30-25.

VU’s second match against AIU was canceled.

Wildcats edge UCI

* SOCCER: The University of Arizona edged UCI, 1-0, in the opening

round of the Arizona invitational Friday night in Tucson as Kaity

Heath scored an unassisted goal at 32:22.
