Noteworthy: Splits rounds between Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club

and Industry Hills Golf Club in the City of Industry. Plays at Costa

Mesa because of friends in the “Splinter Group,†which consists of 30

to 40 golfers who take golf trips together as one of their

activities. Played two years of golf for Fullerton Community College.

Graduated from San Diego Golf Academy in early 1990s. Started playing

golf regularly again two years ago, after two surgeries to repair

disks in his back. Will compete in a United States Mid-Amateur

qualifier Monday into the championship scheduled Oct. 2-7 at Sea

Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. His 4-under-par 68 on

Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club’s Los Lagos course was the lowest

final-round total in the championship flight of the Costa Mesa city

championship, completed Aug. 8. Morgan (67-68 -- 135) finished one

stroke behind champion Brandon Christianson (65-69 -- 134)
