Kittens
Rescued kitten litters are carried in fruit crates, laundry
hampers, boxes and baskets and sometimes in people’s arms. There
seems no end to the babies being born in back yards. These newly
rescued kittens make up quite a mixed group of siblings -- two
Siamese mixes named Sugar and Honey; three torti calicos named Zowie,
Buttercup and Cinnamon; and two very unusual sable brown tabby’s
named Bear and Ashley.
Real-estate agent Sylvia Whyte has worked with Community Animal
Network as a good citizen rescuer for more than two years and has
moved this litter and many others to safety. She comes across animals
needing help by walking Costa Mesa neighborhoods with her business
materials in hopes of meeting prospective home sellers. But, because
she is a cat lover, it doesn’t take long for her to pinpoint the
homes that populate the area with cats. She has spent a lot of time
educating well-meaning backyard feeders who accidentally turned into
backyard breeders. Whyte provides a valuable service to the
pet-loving community by being part of the spay and neuter solution.
Memorial Notes: Billy the tabby cat, who was rescued by Pamela
Primm from Regal Beauty Supply in Costa Mesa and then diagnosed with
kidney disease, was humanely euthanized after having difficulty
breathing and going into renal failure. We were saddened, but pleased
that we were able to provide him the medical and supportive care he
needed.
