Three CdM players honored
Three Corona del Mar girls water polo players were honored for their
efforts at last week’s U.S. water polo Junior Olympics in Florida.
Camille Hewko was named first-team All-American, Brittany Fullen
was named to the second team, and Jordan Anae was given an honorable
mention.
Due to severe weather, CdM was not able to play its third-place
match with the Chino Hills Area team.
Klug named Co-MVP
* Newport Beach resident Emily Klug has been named Co-Most
Valuable Player at the U.S. water polo Junior Olympics. She was also
named First Team All-American in the 14-and-under group while
competing on the SOCAL Waterpolo Foundation in the 14-, 16- and
18-and-under teams.
Klug played two-meter offense for the 14s, and she was used in a
variety of primarily defensive roles on the 14s and 18s. Her versatility led to some hectic days during the Junior Olympic
Tournament in Florida. Following two 14s matches one day, Klug had to
play in an 18s match while her younger teammates went sightseeing in
the Everglades.
The 14s finished with a silver, the 16s finished with co-golds,
and the 18s finished fifth.
Klug, 14, will play on the varsity team at Foothill High the
season despite being a freshman.
