Sandpiper and Chico’s Bail Bonds kept their records perfect through

the fifth week of the city Summer 16-inch Slow Pitch Softball League

by picking up victories at Riddle Field.

Sandpiper improved to 5-0 in Tuesday League play by outlasting

Team Viagra, 14-12, as the first round of league play came to an end.

Chico’s Bail Bonds, meanwhile, remained atop the Thursday League

standings following a 12-7 win over Arbitech to improve to 4-0.

Sandpiper needed a single by Teo Moore and an ensuing home run by

Ryan Neptune in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 12-12 tie

and go on to defeat Team Viagra.

Moore finished the contest with four hits -- two of which were

home runs -- and drove in three runs.

Sandpiper lead-off hitter Jeff Heminghaus hit a home run and

double, David Sommerville doubled and singled and Art Johnson singled

three times.

Nate Pivaroff was the big hitter for Team Viagra with a home run

and pair of doubles, which accounted for six RBIs.

Greg Shire knocked in five runs with a home run and two singles.

Chico’s Bail Bonds erupted for 12 runs in the first two innings in

making Arbitech its fourth straight victim.

Carrying the big bats during the early inning outbursts were Scott

Borthwick and John Verdugo, each with a pair of home runs, Jacob

Heflin, who homered and singled and drove in four runs and two

singles by Josh Stock.

Verdugo led Chico’s Bail Bonds with five RBIs.

Borthwick’s homer gave him eight for the season.

Ryan Neptune, who also played for Arbitech, hit a solo home run

and singled and Todd Lourcio doubled and singled for two RBIs.

In Wednesday League action, last summer’s defending champion, Mesa

Verde Partners, cruised past Island Shade, 23-4.

It was the first loss of the summer for Island Shade.

The win moved Mesa Verdes Partners into a first-place tie with

Island Shade and Arborists.

En route to the 19-run victory, Mesa Verde Partners belted out 12

home runs, with Danny Lane and Nate Pivaroff each hitting three,

Steve McKinley and Dave Meggison each hitting two and Scott Henderson

and David Sommerville each hit one.

Lane added a single and led all hitters with seven RBIs.

Bruce Aguinaldo and Coby Naess each hit solo home runs for Island

Shade.
