Three players from Velocity, a roller hockey team featuring
12-year-olds from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach, have been selected to
the United States’ squad that will compete in the World Cup Inline
Hockey 12-and-under championships July 6-11 in London, Ontario,
Canada.
Officials from USA Rollersports, the national governing body,
selected Brett Olinger, Darren Nowick and Taylor Aronson from
Velocity to the 14-member team, chosen from a pool of 40 of the
nation’s best players.
Michigan had the most players chosen of any state represented with
four (Alex Aleardi, Charles Williams, Jarrett Pfeiffer and Ryan
Davis) while North Carolina has three representatives (Timothy Acker,
Douglas Thomas and Joseph Ozment). The team also includes Stephen
Castriota and Gregory Cartwright from New York and Jason Binkley from
Ohio.
Team USA will meet at the Skateplex Inline Hockey Rink in Detroit
for practices July 2-5 before leaving for Canada July 6.
Velocity won the North American Roller Hockey Championships
Winternationals in January.
