Laguna names its 11-year-old All-Star team

Laguna Beach Little League celebrated a season of great baseball

action by holding its annual, year-end Fiesta Day activities at

Riddle Field.

One highlight of the event was the announcement of the 11-year-old

All-Star team, which will represent Laguna in the District 55

All-Star Tournament.

The tournament, played at Youth Sports Park in Mission Viejo, will

feature several top teams from the district.

District 55 is composed of the following Little Leagues: Aliso

Viejo, Ladera Ranch, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, Newport

Beach, Northwood, North Mission Viejo, Rancho Mission Viejo, Rancho

Niguel, Rancho Santa Margarita, Saddleback, San Clemente, San Juan,

South Irvine, South Mission Viejo, Tijeras Creek, Trabuco Canyon and

Viejo.

North Mission Viejo and South Mission Viejo are serving as

co-hosts of the tournament.

Laguna’s first tournament game is set for Saturday, June 26.

Fifteen 11-year-olds were selected by the Little League managers,

including 13 who played in the Majors Division and two at the AAA

Division level during the season.

The following players make up the 2004 Laguna Beach Little League

11-year-old All-Star team:

Majors Division

Rotary: Michael Hyden, Sawyer Pierce

SportsWorld: Stevie Contursi, Taylor Preston, Travis Sampson

American Legion: Alek Burk, Tyler McRae

FireFighters: Jack Clark, Spencer Freidenrich

VFW: Alek Bekken, Jake Glazer

Hobie: Keaton Jones, Tyler Pierce

AAA Division

Coldwell Banker: Matthew Neev, DuRoss “Bo” O’Brien

Rotary won the Majors Division regular season and Tournament of

Champions tournaments and SportsWorld finished runner-up in the

division.

The 11-year-old All-Stars will be under the guidance of Rotary

manager Cary Hyden. Coaches include Chris Clark of the FireFighters

and Ron Jones of Hobie.

At the District 55 Tournament of Champions, Rotary lost its first

two tournament games and was eliminated from title contention in the

Area B bracket at Youth Sports Park.

In its opener, Rotary fell to Lake Forest Blue No. 2, 8-6.

Rotary was eliminated by South Irvine National, which posted a 4-2

win.

Rotary concluded its record-setting year with 24 victories -- a

new Laguna Beach Little League single-season record.
