Church has worked with its neighbors before
I began attending St. Andrew’s in 1950, when the church met in the
library of Newport Harbor High School with a congregation of a little
more than 100 members.
There were mostly empty fields surrounding the area when
construction began on the original church buildings about that same
time. St. Andrew’s has met the spiritual needs of so many people in
the area and has now grown to slightly more than 4,000 members.
There have been several building projects over the years as St.
Andrew’s grew, and the church has always tried to be a good neighbor
and work out any concerns of those living in the surrounding area.
I’m sure we will try to ease parking, traffic and noise complaints
that have been expressed. But when you choose to live close to a high
school, a junior high and church facility, you would expect some
noise and traffic.
The projected St. Andrew’s plan is to serve the local junior and
high school people as well as provide a place where young families
can find support and fellowship.
In these areas, people usually need all the help they can get.

Church growth seen as ‘gift’ for local youth
As a 15-year volunteer at St. Andrew’s Sunday schools, I have
watched the youth programs (infant though high school) grow and grow.
I would think the community would welcome such a healthy
alternative for their youth. This plan is not so much an expansion as
a gift.
