Lido Village needs improvement
The Lido Marina Village needs to be replaced, or at a minimum, is in
desperate need of significant repairs. In any other town, this
property would be a candidate for redevelopment. In addition, the
current uses on the property only serve a small segment of the
community. Even on weekends, the village is deserted.
I applaud any developer who is brave enough to enter Newport Beach
and is willing to invest significant dollars to try to enhance our
quality of life. It appears that the community has the opportunity to
create a truly unique destination.
I find it very interesting that Greenlight Spokesman Phil Arst can
make any specific comments regarding the project when no formal
submittal has been made to the city. This is another example of
Greenlight taking a no-growth, anti-property rights position without
having any of the facts. Shame on them. This type of transparent
agenda will be their undoing.

I am completely opposed to Lido Marina Village being replaced with
another “luxury” hotel and condo complex. Lido Marina Village in an
area of unique character in Newport Beach with its small shops and
restaurants and can be enjoyed by residents and tourists alike.
We need to preserve these unique places that add to and
distinguish the character of the city. Newport Beach does not need
another artificial Italian-style development that tries to create a
place that Newport is not.

A resounding yes -- replace Lido Marina Village. What was once a
beautiful area and a wonderful asset to Newport Beach has become an
eyesore. It is no longer a desirable place to visit, shop and enjoy.
A hotel and shops would definitely bring people back to the area to
dine, shop and just relax. Lido Village has great potential, and I
would love to see it become the jewel of this area.
