ON THE AGENDA
Here are a few of the issues the council will consider tonight.
WESTSIDE IMPROVEMENTS
Councilman Allan Mansoor is interested in exploring incentives to
spur greater economic growth and revitalization of the Westside.
Development Services staff members thought the best way to present
Mansoor’s ideas to the council would be in a broad format with other
strategies for improving the Westside.
They have created a Westside Community Improvement Work Plan
spreadsheet that displays current projects and new ideas proposed by
Mansoor. Some of Mansoor’s proposed financial incentives are fee
reductions for developers; lot combinations; and identifying and
improving the entry points to the Westside.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The council will consider Mansoor’s suggestions and prioritize
them for staff members to pursue.
PRIORITIZATION OF PROGRAMS
Finance department and administration staff members are looking
for direction from the council as to how to address long-term
budgetary concerns. Strategies to be considered include
across-the-board cuts, reductions in programs and services and new
revenue sources.
WHAT TO EXPECT
More financial belt tightening to deal with the effects of the
state budget crisis. While in the past, the city could make small
cuts in the budget, that flexibility no longer exists without
affecting staffing levels, staff members say.
RELOCATION OF MOBILE HOME PARKS
The council will consider the relocation report created by Joe
Brown for the closure of the Snug Harbor Village and El Nido Trailer
Parks. The report is required by the state for closing a mobile home
park.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The answer is unclear. Some residents of these parks don’t think
the relocation offer made to them is fair. Planning staff members
believe the report, with some staff modifications, is consistent with
state law and the proposed measures aren’t more than the reasonable
costs of relocation.
