Not all news shots have graphic qualities...

Not all news shots have graphic qualities to them, and not all
visually appealing shots have news value. This sports shot amazingly
contains both aspects.
The shot is from the Corona del Mar girls water polo team’s first
round CIF playoff game against Sunny Hills High School Thursday.
In it is the Sea Kings’ Kaitlin Kubas, right, firing a backhand
shot by Sunny Hills’ Shannon McEwen for the first goal of the game,
as well as the postseason.
The water coming off the ball on the shot created a quarter arch
from the water level that connects to the ball, which is at the point
of release on the shot by Kubas, making the shot visually appealing.
The news aspect of the shot is the fact that it was the first goal of
the game.
Unfortunately, this shot didn’t run in the coverage from the game
in Friday’s paper, but sometimes, the best shots don’t always make it
to print.
