Lakers stay on top with victory

The first-place Lakers edged the Wizards, 33-29, in Week 8 of the
Newport-Mesa National Junior Basketball girls fifth- and sixth-grade
division.
The Wildcats’ Kathleen Etuale led all scorers with 16 points while
teammate Kelly Heenan added 13.
Lindsay Anderson led the Lakers with 13 points followed by seven
from LiAnne Sarisuk and six from Samantha Archie.
In other action:
* Shock 33, Pirates 12:
Kadee Malone scored 18 points for the Shock while sister Kylee
tallied eight.
Camile Krahe’s five points led the Pirates while Nicolete Kelegian
followed with four.
* Globetrotters 48, Mavericks 29: Kassie Stratton led the
Globetrotters with 21 points while Duran Sharp added 12 and Kelsey
Woo scored 10. Emily Rosales led the Mavericks with 11 points
followed by nine from Laura Martinez.
In girls third- and fourth-grade play:
* Raptors 19, Gold Rush 17:
Elissa Schilling led the Raptors with a season-high nine points
while Carolyn Grant and Megan Zwerling each added three. Mary
McKennon led the Gold Rush with 10 points while Marissa Hergott added
six.
* Sisters of Hoop 24, Liquidators 16:
Niki Zak scored a season- and career-high nine points while
contributing tight defense and strong rebounding for the Sisters of
Hoop.
Ava Soleimany led the Sisters with 14 points while Olivia Tharp
and Sara Silverman keyed a staunch defense.
Asia Andry led the Liquidators with seven points while Taylor
Stefano and Brooke Migliori tallied four points each.
* Celtics 17, Razz Ma Tazz 15:
Shannon Griffith scored nine points for the Celtics while Annie
Alvarado tallied four points to go with three by Maddie O’Connor.
MacKenzie Dalton scored five points for the Razz Ma Tazz to go
with four from Natalie Barbaresi and three by Brittany Brown.
