Woman drives car into building
No one was hurt after a 38-year-old Costa Mesa woman trying to
park her car in her apartment’s lot hit the gas instead of the brake
and plowed her car through a bedroom, officials said.
The accident occurred at about 6:25 p.m. in an apartment complex
in the 1300 block of Adams Avenue, police said.
The woman, whose name was not available Thursday night, told
officers she was “trying to put the vehicle on park,” Costa Mesa
Police Sgt. Rich Allum said.
“But she must’ve had it on drive and stepped on the gas,” he said.
“She went right through the cement stop through the curb, the bushes
and the wall of that two-bedroom apartment.”
The woman was not hurt, and no one was in the apartment at the
time, Allum said.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt,” he said. “It could’ve been much
worse.”
The woman’s white Ford Taurus suffered moderate damage, and the
bedroom wall was torn apart, but building inspectors deemed the unit
“inhabitable,” Allum said.
She was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Allum said.
